Its surface area is nearly 10 million km² (4 million sq. mi.). Canada has many wonderful nature areas and Canadians place a high value on their natural environment. There are approximately 39 national parks and reserves in Canada as well as over 2000 designated areas kept as provincial parks, wilderness areas, ecological and nature reserves. Students who come to Canada can witness one of the most beautiful, natural environments in the world in these areas. One can observe and experience our unspoiled lakes and wide rivers, the lush coastlines of either British Columbia or the Atlantic Provinces, our green forests, the majestic and towering Rocky Mountains of Alberta, and our long beaches, just to name a few of our wonderful, natural environmental areas.
